Frequently asked questions
Last updated September 7, 2026
How much does it cost?
$2.99 a month, after a 7-day free trial. The trial does not ask for a card.
Do you sell my phone number?
No. We do not sell, rent, or share your number with anyone for marketing, ever. It goes to Twilio so your message can be delivered and to Stripe so your payment can be processed, and nowhere else. This is covered in detail in our Privacy Policy.
What styles can I choose from?
Nine: Stoic, Ancient, Historic, Literary, Scientific, Wit, Resilience, Uplifting, and Random, which draws from all of them. You pick one at signup and can change it whenever you like.
Can I choose when my message arrives?
Yes. You set the exact time and your time zone at signup, and you can change it later.
What does "verified" actually mean?
Every quotation is matched against the original source text before it can be sent. We record the author, the work, the year, and for translated works the translator and translation year. Nothing goes in because it sounded right or because it was widely repeated somewhere.
Why does that matter?
A great many quotations circulating online were never said by the people they are credited to. Attribution gets copied from other copies and almost nobody checks it against a source. We check.
Are the quotes religious?
No. This is a secular service drawing on philosophy, literature, science, history and wit.
Do I need to download an app?
No. It is a text message. There is no app, no account password, and no feed.
How do I change my style or delivery time?
Your welcome message includes a private link to your preferences. Open it and change whatever you like.
How do I unsubscribe?
Reply STOP to any message. That stops everything immediately. You can also cancel from your preferences link.
What happens when my free trial ends?
We text you a link before it ends. If you use it, your subscription starts. If you ignore it, messages simply stop. Since we never took a card, there is nothing to cancel and you are never charged.
Can I get a second free trial?
No. One trial per phone number, ever.
What if I miss a day?
Messages depend on mobile carriers, so an occasional delay is possible. Missed quotes are not resent, but nothing is lost; a new one arrives the next day.
Do you charge for the text messages themselves?
The $2.99 covers the cost of sending your daily texts and running the service. Your own carrier's message and data rates may apply on your end, depending on your plan.
